This miniature represents the second type of Imperial Service Medal EIIR, with over 150,000 recipients to date. Established on 8 August 1902 by King Edward VII, the Imperial Service Medal was bestowed upon civil servants (upon retirement) who have served at least 25 years in the United Kingdom, or a minimum of 16 years in the former British colonies and protectorates, as per the statutes of the Imperial Service Order.
Recipients of the Imperial Service Medal were not entitled to use any post-nominal letters.
